Register in the portal, complete the profile, and upload a notarized letter of recommendation and a current CPR card. Applications are first-come. A full exam waits for the next window. Late applications are not accepted.

A written section of about 250 multiple-choice questions and a clinical section. Topics include chairside skills, office procedures, dental anatomy, specialties, materials, insurance, sterilization and OSHA, preventive procedures, and emergency skills. Clinical tasks include materials, patient education, matrix retainers, instrument and bur identification, and x-rays. A radiology certificate does not exempt the radiology portion.

You retake only the failed portion, with a new application and current CPR. The retake fee is $25 and must be within one year. Three attempts are allowed. After that, further education or remediation is required before reapplying.

Scrubs, a lab jacket, proper footwear, and PPE. Missing the uniform reduces the clinical score. Bring identification, a pencil, PPE, a current CPR card, the notarized letter, and lunch in a clear container. No phones or smart devices in the building.

Programs must relate directly to dental assisting or dentistry. Forty-five minutes equals one hour. Community participation earns one credit per two hours, up to four credits a year. CPR, OSHA, and radiology review count. Home study approved by the ADA, AGD, ADAA, or DANB counts. EFDA training after certification may cover two years of CE when proof and the fee are submitted each year.
